Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Sports Day last Friday was such a brilliant day for all and we could not have asked for a better Spring day to hold the event. A huge bouquet of thanks is extended to Michael Woods (PE teacher) for organising the events and coordinating the day, and to all staff members who assisted with setting up in the morning and packing up at the end of the day. Special thanks is extended to all parents who assisted in a myriad of ways on the day, and to Nives Grgic and her team of helpers who provided the BBQ and drinks. It was terrific to receive so much positive feedback throughout the day about this annual event – if you have any further feedback, please do not hesitate to email your thoughts to Michael Woods (mwoods@smg.catholic.edu.au).

Greetings!

The general capabilities play a significant role in the Australian Curriculum in equipping young Australians to live and work successfully in the twenty-first century.

General capabilities are a key dimension of the Australian Curriculum, supporting young Australians to become successful learners, confident and creative individuals, and active and informed citizens.

The Australian Curriculum includes seven general capabilities. These are:

  • Literacy capability
  • Numeracy capability
  • Information and Communication Technology capability
  • Critical and Creative Thinking capability
  • Personal and Social capability
  • Ethical Understanding capability
  • Intercultural Understanding capability.

In the Australian Curriculum, capability encompasses knowledge, skills, behaviours and dispositions. Students develop capability when they apply knowledge and skills confidently, effectively and appropriately in complex and changing circumstances, in their learning at school and in their lives outside school. Last week, the Church celebrated the Feast Day of the Assumption of Our Lady, when according to our faith, the Holy Mother, "having completed her course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory".  At the end of her life, Mary was taken immediately to heaven, body and soul. We say she was ‘assumed’ into heaven.  Tradition variously places Mary's death at Jerusalem or at Ephesus.
