May you enjoy the spirit of St Martin’s Catholic Primary School and being part of our community.

I would also like to welcome back the following staff members - Susanne Harding who has been Acting Deputy Principal at Dominican School, Semaphore for the past 7 months, Meg Van Ruth (Performing Arts teacher) who has been on Maternity Leave and Jan Milbank (Year 1MB) who has been of sick leave.

As we embark on another busy term jammed pack with activities, it is hoped that every student is re-energised and ready to give 100% effort into all tasks, including taking on board the challenges highlighted in their Mid-Year Report to accomplish their personal best at the conclusion on the year.

On Monday this week, staff attended a Professional Learning day titled “Introduction to Word Study" (with a focus on Spelling) facilitated by Lisa Burman (a pedagogical growth consultant). Time was given to looking at various elements associated with teaching spelling, how to connect spelling knowledge to spelling strategies used in reading and writing, and how pronunciation of words have changed over the years.

All students need to be wearing their full winter uniform this term with hats being worn at break times as of Monday July 29th. If your child cannot find their school hat, one can be purchased from the uniform shop on Tuesday mornings from 8.30am to 10.00am and Thursdays 2.30pm to 4.00pm, alternatively an order form is available from the front office.

During the holidays, our Reception classrooms and OSHC area had a complete ‘makeover’ which entailed the painting of walls, recarpeting of all floors and new pinup boards installed in every space. OSHC has had a large TV screen installed and the entire area has been remodelled to accommodate the needs of all OSHC students. A new entrance into the Sweeney building from the courtyard has been completed to complement our new building project and by the end of next week, a new ‘Our Place’ facility will be completed which has been constructed at the ‘old’ Sweeney building entrance. To achieve so much work during the holiday break was such a huge task from Harold & Kite (our building company) and they are to be congratulated in completing everything by Monday evening in readiness for Tuesday morning this week. A huge bouquet of thanks is extended to all of our Reception teachers, Curriculum ESOs and OSHC workers who worked tirelessly on Monday to ensure that all areas were set up beautifully for the first day of school on Tuesday morning.

Photo Day for students is on TUESDAY AUGUST 6th – information and envelopes were sent home on Tuesday. If you require a Family Photo, please obtain an envelope from the Front Office.

Wishing you a great fortnight ahead.
