Gospel Reflection – Sunday 1 November – All Saints

This week’s Gospel of The Beatitudes is timely with the October release of our beloved Pope Francis’ encyclical entitled ‘Fratelli Tutti’ (brothers and sisters all).  Following his popular encyclical of Laudato Si where the focus in on the relationship with our earth; Fratelli Tutti embraces the need for us to come together, as a world somewhat in crisis, particularly since the COVID-19 pandemic.  It addresses human fraternity, friendship and solidarity and Pope Francis writes about a way forward to a better future for all by treating each other respectfully.

Leadership News

Greetings!

This term, the OLSH pillar that we focus on is:

TOUCHING THE HEART OF OTHERS

We have lots of opportunity to do this as we prepare to leave our class teachers and class of 2020, prepare for the Church’s season of Christmas, through the Season of Advent, and engage in the end of year events, celebrating the 2020 school year. Some of these community events will look different this year, due to the restrictions of being COVID safe. Nevertheless, I think we are doing a good job of staying true to who we are while accommodating these restrictions.

Book Week 2020 Wrap Up

BOOK WEEK

WOW! What an amazing Book Week we are having at St Martin’s. Our Book Week celebrations have gone over two weeks this year as we have had 500 student authors put their books on display in the Library. The books the students  have created reflected the theme ‘Curious Creatures Wild Minds’. Students have been engaged in reading each other’s stories during their Library visits.

Our Library looks fabulous due to the hard work of Michele Dick, Wendy Hill and Bobby Rodgers. I would like to thank the Book Week team who have worked many hours on making Book Week such a success.

Our Book Week photos have been shared by the Children’s Book Council Australia Facebook page, as well as, Lisa Burman’s Facebook page (Consultant in Pedagogical Growth) which demonstrates the great work the students have done in Writers Workshop. Staff at St Martin’s have worked with Lisa Burman for many years developing a writing approach that is engaging for all students.

In the photos, you will notice that we had The Very Hungry Caterpillar visit our Dress up Day. It is the 50th anniversary of this much-loved book and our staff looked the part.

Thank you to all the students for their stories and thank you to the parents for putting together the costumes for our Dress Up Day last Friday.

I wonder what next year’s theme will be?
