Faces of Project Compassion - First Week of Lent
We begin our annual Lenten Project Compassion journey by learning about the story of Jamila and her family.  Jamila, 22, is a Rohingya woman, living in the world’s largest refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh.  A single mother, she fled armed conflict in Myanmar to save herself, her elderly mother and eight-month-old baby.

With the support of Caritas Australia, through Caritas Bangladesh, Jamila was able to access emergency food and shelter. She also received counselling, emotional support and learnt sewing skills, to help her earn an income.  Jamila now feels less alone, with a sense of community around her. She is able to ‘Be More’ to her little family.

860,494 people remain in the densely populated camps, in desperate need of humanitarian assistance, especially due to COVID-19.

On Friday 12 March, we will be raising funds for Project Compassion through a Coin Day organised by the SRC.  Please save any silver and/or gold coins for this day, as every little bit helps.  It will also be a Casual Clothes Day as the Parent Network is organising a FREE Daytime Disco for all students.

Sustainability

Sustainability - Gardening

Year 3 students are always ready, willing and able to get out of the classroom to go outdoors and do a bit of gardening in the St Martin’s gardens.  They have been busy helping Mr Kuerschner harvest ripe fruit and vegetables, clean up the gardens and make sure that the gardens are kept watered.  They have learned how to care for different fruit and vegetables, learned when they are best for picking, and they get to taste and eat what is grown.  This term, they were lucky enough to help with picking the peaches and some students tasted them for the very first time.  Some did not like the ‘furry’ skin, but they were juicy and sweet, so went back for seconds! Having the knowledge around what can be grown helps us to appreciate what we have in our world.
