GARDENING NEWS

During our Procedure Unit, RV has explored 'Wombat Stew' and other procedural texts to identify the language and organisational features of these texts. This week, RV picked potatoes from our garden and prepared them to be baked in the oven. We used a range of command verbs such as wash, boil, sprinkle, pour, eat etc. They were delicious, crunchy and smelt anazing. A huge thank you to Mr Kuerschner and Mrs Udnia for helping RV!

Kind Regards,

Natasha Voiklis

CHILDREN'S UNIVERSITY

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

This year, St Martin’s continued Children’s University for a second consecutive year. For those who are not aware of Children’s University, it is a program designed to encourage students to participate in out-of-school learning opportunities to increase their chances for educational achievement and rewards them for taking responsibility for their own learning. At St Martin’s, we offer this opportunity to students from Year 3 to Year 6.

On Thursday, 10 November, 18 students from St Martin's graduated from Children’s University at Bonython Hall, Adelaide University. The 18 students achieved an incredible number of learning hours outside of school time to further their knowledge. It was wonderful to have many of the students who took part in Children’s University last year, again challenge themselves this year and once again graduate. It was also just as exciting to have many new faces join Children’s University and give it a go, with many also graduating.

I would like to commend and acknowledge the students who took part in Children’s University this year but did not graduate. Your willingness to give a new challenge a go is admirable and I hope you participate  again in 2023. Congratulations to the entire 2022 cohort of Children’s University participants, again I am tremendously proud of students we have here at St Martin’s who continue to highlight and put our motto into action, “Loving to Learn – Learning to Love”. Thank you to all parents/caregivers for allowing their child the opportunity to participate and further their learning through an incredible initiative.

Have an amazing rest of the year and safe upcoming holidays. We look forward to another exceptional year of Children’s University in 2023.

Kind regards,

Mr. Segat
