Catholic Social Teaching - What have we been learning about in our classes this term?

In Reception, we have been focusing on Stewardship and looking at the Creation story and how we are part of God’s plan to look after the Earth.  During prayer we have being singing ‘The Wonders I See’ and, ‘In the Beginning’.  Children have also been composing their own prayers, both verbal and written about being thankful for God’s creation.

1VI, have been focusing on caring for our common home.  As part of our Science inquiry, we started exploring pollution.  My students have been very disturbed at the amount of pollution in the world and are very interested in looking after our environment.  So much so that some studucts have chosen to pick up rubbish during playtime and Discovery Learning!

3R – As part of our unit of work about ‘Who is Jesus?’, we have explored the many names and roles Jesus had and just like Jesus did, when he shared the good news with his followers, we are sharing the good news too.  When we see or hear good news, we write it down and then share it with each other.

Outreach

This term our OLSH Pillar focus has been centred around ‘we are heart people who are Faith-Filled’ and St Martin’s certainly demonstrated this on Thursday during our annual Outreach Day.  Many thanks to our school community for their generous giving of non-perishable food items and donations of blankets, scarves, beanies and socks.  Thank you also to Helen Williams and the SRC for organising the event.

Sacramental Program

Congratulations to all the students from St Martin’s who have now completed both the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Confirmation.  The Confirmation Ceremony on 17 June was beautifully led by Archbishop Pat.

To complete the Sacramental Program this year, the sessions for Eucharist will commence on Tuesday 27 July at 7pm at St Monica’s School Hall.
